![]() This doesn't change how you move a layer, especially a text layer with lots of transparent area, but it makes it easier to prevent accidentally moving layers which should stay put. The lock button for that is in the layers dialog. While it does not help directly with moving a specific layer, it is now possible to lock the position and size of layers. You might want to change this in your WM or DE configuration, as Alt is a frequently used modified key in GIMP. The Italian army then occupied the Tigrayan capital, Adwa. Units of General Oreste Baratieri's army under Major Pietro Toselli crushed the rebellion and killed Bahta. ![]() In December 1894, Bahta Hagos led a rebellion against the Italians in Akele Guzai, in what was then Italian controlled Eritrea. As a result, Italy and Ethiopia came into confrontation, in what was later to be known as the First Italo-Ethiopian War. The Italian government decided on a military solution to force Ethiopia to abide by the Italian version of the treaty. However, the Italian diplomats claimed that the original Amharic text included the clause and that Menelik II knowingly signed a modified copy of the Treaty. The Amharic version of the article, however, stated that the Emperor could use the good offices of the Kingdom of Italy in his relations with foreign nations if he wished. The Italian-language version of the disputed Article 17 of the treaty stated that the Emperor of Ethiopia was obliged to conduct all foreign affairs through Italian authorities, effectively making Ethiopia a protectorate of the Kingdom of Italy. A dispute later arose over the interpretation of the two versions of the document. In it, Italy also promised to provide financial assistance and military supplies. The treaty, signed after the Italian occupation of Eritrea, recognized Italy's claim over the coastal colony. In 1889, the Italians signed the Treaty of Wuchale with the then King Menelik of Shewa. Adwa became a pre-eminent symbol of pan-Africanism and secured Ethiopian sovereignty until the Second Italo-Ethiopian War forty years later. By the end of the 19th century, European powers had carved up almost all of Africa after the Berlin Conference only Ethiopia and Liberia still maintained their independence. The decisive victory thwarted the campaign of the Kingdom of Italy to expand its colonial empire in the Horn of Africa. The Ethiopian forces defeated the Italian invading force on Sunday 1 March 1896, near the town of Adwa. The Battle of Adwa ( Amharic: የዐድዋ ጦርነት Tigrinya: ውግእ ዓድዋ Italian: battaglia di Adua, also spelled Adowa) was the climactic battle of the First Italo-Ethiopian War. They are great for creating a true gangster appearance for your publication by incorporating different attributes such as size and weight. They can be simple or ornate and they can come in any style you desire (geometric, modernistic, retro). They can have a number of different variations (regular, bold, italic, cursive) and they can also be serif or sans serif. The most common type of font is bold, but they can also be heavy or light weight. They can be used in a variety of ways: headlines, headings, subheads, captions and body text. Different materials reflect and absorb differently at different wavelengths. Optical remote sensing makes use of visible, near infrared and short-waveinfrared sensors to form images of the earth's surface by detecting thesolar radiation reflected from targets on the ground. With world-leading optical amplification technology, FiberLabs presently provides optical amplifiers of a variety of wavelength bands, including 850nm-, 980 nm-, 1030nm-, O-, S-, C-, L-, CL-, and SCL-bands. With the original fluoride fiber technology, FiberLabs has successfully developed optical fiber amplifiers for the O- and S-bands and 850 nm of wavelengths. Though various wavelength bands of the O-, S-, C- and L- bands have come into use with the explosive expansion of internet traffic in recent years, optical fiber amplifiers for the O- and S-band wavelengths were not realized for many years because of many technical hurdles. The U-band is mainly used for network monitoring purposes.įiberLabs’ product lineup for optical communication ![]() The 850-nm-band is the primary wavelength for multimode fiber optical communication systems, combined with VCSEL (Vertical-Cavity Surface Emitting Laser). In addition to the O- to L-bands, there are two more wavelength bands, namely the 850-nm-band and U-band (ultra-long-wavelength band: 1625-1675 nm). The use of the E-band in optical communication is, nevertheless, still limited as many existing fiber optic cables installed before 2000 show high attenuation in the E-band. After the invention of dehydration technique during glass production, the attenuation of most commonly used optical fiber ( ITU-T G.652.D) in the E-band has become lower than that in the O-band. This is because the attenuation of early optical fiber in the E-band was highest among the five bands, due to residual water (OH group) impurity remained in the glass. The E-band (extended-wavelength band: 1360-1460 nm) is the least common wavelength band among the five. The S-band is also gathering attention for DWDM transmission as a future R&D topic, further extending the bandwidth of terrestrial optical network beyond the C+L-band. The loss of optical fiber in the S-band (short-wavelength band: 1460-1530 nm) is lower than that of the O-band, and the S-band is used for many PON (Passive-Optical Network) systems as the downstream wavelength. Repeatered C+L-band WDM transmission is now commercially feasible, and is employed even for transoceanic submarine transmission systems (see here). The same WDM and EDFA technologies can be applied to the L-band. The L-band is the second lowest-loss wavelength band, and is a popular choice when the use of the C-band is not sufficient to meet the bandwidth demand. ![]() Today optical fibers show its lowest loss in the C-band, and thus is commonly used in many metro, long-haul, ultra-long-haul, and submarine optical transmission systems combined with the WDM and EDFA technologies. It was also because optical fibers produced in the mid 1970s showed its lowest loss near the O-band. Among these five bands, the O-band (orignal band: 1260-1360 nm) was historically the first wavelength band used for optical communication, because signal distortion (due to chromatic dispersion) is minimum. Level design for the most part is solid, giving the player plenty of options to tackle the scenario. Use your powers too often and you will drain your bar (which is cleverly shown on your cape), which could put you in a dangerous situation. Using your powers is more of a game of resource management. You do have a small arsenal of offensive abilities you can use, but the limited amount of uses means you can’t rely on them to get out of tough situations too often. It’s not the most eloquent of mechanics, but it works just fine. You can’t just swing your sword around and instead have to get behind them to perform a take down. Getting caught has consequences as you die in one hit from the enemies which puts you back at the start of the area with no quicksaving. On-top of this, you can also create your own shadow spots to teleport to at the cost of more energy drain.Ĭombat is pretty much non-existent here and as a huge fan of the stealth genre, this a good thing. It’s a great twist on the Blink ability that makes sense in the context of the story. You can teleport across short distances as long as there is a shadow to jump to this can be used to reach high ledges pass through gates or get behind patrols. It brings the classic pacing of the genre back into focus whilst bringing ideas from the Dishonored franchise. It strips away the combat and focuses entirely on you becoming an unseen ninja. ![]() Gameplay-wise, Aragami is one of the best and most pure stealth games out there today. Thankfully, the rest of Aragami remains intact. The Switch version is by far the worst version available. This is something that you need to know before buying the game. It’s nothing game breaking, but it does have a significant impact on the gameplay experience. ![]() Shadows will render mere feet in-front of you making it harder to plan your next move and enemies will just completely disappear at a distance. Namely, the extreme amounts of pop-ins even at closer ranges. Then we’ve got the things that actually have an impact on gameplay. It is often lacking detail, being replicated constantly throughout, and lacking anti-aliasing so there’s plenty of jagged edges, although this is less noticeable in handheld mode. Whilst the main character looks great and the good use of lighting helps make the environments look much nicer, the texture work isn’t very attractive. There’s a few moments throughout the game where the framerate just drops even though there’s not a lot going on, with the snow levels being particularly guilty of this. Visually, the game follows the same graphical art style that the original had which is a good thing, but the Unity visuals don’t do it justice. Loading times are longer than they should be and for a minute or so after loading, the framerate is all over the place. ![]() The base game on PC wasn’t exactly a technical showcase and the port over to Nintendo Switch hasn’t gone as smoothly as hoped for. ![]() £5.49 MarkDrop (no iPad version) Conclusion £6.99 Byword + £2.99 publishing addon + £2.99 iPad versionģ. When you are ready, you can publish straight to your blog (or just copy it across as a draft). Byword has pretty much the same, which is good.īyword does appear to have the advantage though as a 2.99 in-app purchase, Byword has some extra publishing tools for publishing directly to WordPress and other services: IA Writer has several export options HTML, RTF, Docx, and lets you ‘copy html’ to the clipboard. ![]() Instead you have to export HTML then get the contents and put it in WordPress. I personally would have liked to see this as its faster to get content from the App to WordPress. Starting with the weakest, MarkDrop lets you export as a PDF or HTML. The keyboard shortcuts are more compact compared to iA Writer giving you more space to write. iA Writer on the iPadīyword for the iPad is also fab, and although it doesn’t seem to have focus mode, I found the keyboard shortcuts much more useful, giving you quick shortcuts to make headings, links, images, lists and tabs, and also cursor controls. It has some shortcodes when writing allowing you to insert commonly used characters and move the cursor or a single space or by word. The iA Writer iPad app works very similar to the Mac app. Both have iCloud integration letting you continue editing on the go. MarkDrop doesn’t have an iPad app, but Byword and iA Writer do. Winners: Byword and iA Writer Mobile apps As I’m not a Droplr user, and don’t need to share my documents, I didn’t play around with this and just saved locally (boo). MarkDrop however only saves to Droplr – the idea being to make it easy to share documents. This is useful if you want to focus on the paragraph you are currnetly writing. IA Writer and Byword both have a ‘focus mode’ whereby the current paragraph is emphasised (other’s fade). MarkDrop wins for the clean UI and split preview. iA Writer doens’t have this – not neccessarily a bad thing though because the default theme/font is nice to use. I learned the hard way creating this plugin. I do know that you have to be very careful with html markup being embedded into markdown and that it’s generally not a good practice. Fortunately, we agreed to release it as open-source, so others could benefit from it, too. However, since I just provide the service and the client wanted to have such a field, I went ahead and built it. I never had any issues to convince clients to use markdown up until then.
